Rachel & JK
A Destination Wedding At Saffire Freycinet, Coles Bay, Tasmania
While I’m perfectly happy to call Canberra is home, a part of me (mainly the part that loves golf and whisky) wistfully longs to be amongst the rugged landscapes of Tasmania.
So when the opportunity to shoot Rachel and JK’s wedding, not just in Tasmania but at the très chic Saffire Freycinet luxury resort, came along it was like a dream come true.
Side note: you can’t just book a wedding at Saffire Freycinet. If you wish to have your nuptials at the Best Luxury Hotel in Australia (as it was at the time of the wedding) you have to book the entire resort. For a minimum of two nights.
So why was Saffire so special for this Sydney-based couple? Well JK is a pilot for Qantas and was based out of Tasmania for a while. Before he completed his stint there he treated Rachel to a stay at Saffire during which time he proposed on the deck of their cabin.
And it was that very same cabin that JK got ready in before heading to the ceremony on the resort’s private beach; a pristine stretch of sand with the mountain range known as the Hazards forming a dramatic backdrop on the far side of the bay.
What unfolded was one of my favourite weddings. From the unique location and chilled vibe to the beautiful Korean hanbok outfits that the mothers of the bride and groom wore and the cutest ring bearer ever, this wedding had so many memorable moments.
One of the advantages of having literally all the resort staff at your beck and call is that we had a dedicated driver to take us around Freycinet National Park and the famous Wineglass Bay for photos. And whilst there was a stiff breeze, we fortunately dodged the rain that is almost as synonymous with Tassie as its golf and whisky.
