Felicity & Alex

A Micro Wedding At Lennox Gardens, Canberra

To the best of my knowledge the term “micro wedding” didn’t exist before I moved to Canberra back in 2019, but they’re definitely a thing here in the nation’s capital and have become even more popular of late thanks to a certain global pandemic.

Felicity and Alex’s micro wedding, which included a massive one whole hour of photography, was one of my first tastes of these small but perfectly formed events and it remains one of my favourites as it encapsulates many of the things I love about being a Canberra wedding photographer.

Let’s start with convenience. Sure, it isn’t the most weddingy or romantic of words, but this is Canberra where getting anywhere in less than 15 minutes is the norm. So an hour feels like forever if everything is happening in just one location and it’s plenty of time even if there’s a bit of travel involved as was the case on this occasion.

And that leads to another reason why I love micro weddings in Canberra. The quality and variety of locations for weddings and photos in such a small area is simply amazing. So in a single hour I was able to contrast the architectural magnificence of Skyspace at the NGA with the relaxed, lakeside ceremony setting of Lennox Gardens.

The third aspect of this fun shindig that I adore is that despite its short duration everything I captured was a true reflection of Felicity and Alex. Skyspace at the NGA is an iconic location for photos but it’s particularly significant for this art-loving couple as they got engaged at the Skyspace installation in Beijing, plus Felicity is involved in the arts and used to work at the NGA. And just one glimpse of their cool outfits and the fun styling of their picnic reveals how they were letting their personalities shine through on their special day.
