Welcome to Behind The Seams, brought to you by Savvy Brides, Sydney's leading boutique service that specialises in acquiring and selling pre-loved designer wedding gowns.
In this post Mandy gives you the lowdown on:
The truly divine Monique Lhuillier was born in the Philippines and has risen to fame to become one of the most celebrated and well-known designers in the world.
During Lhuillier’s childhood growing up in the Philippines she dreamed of being a fashion designer and like so many bridal designers she realised there was a niche in the bridal market when searching for her own wedding dress. She longed to find a gown that was wedding appropriate but also fashionable and modern. She launched her first bridal collection and has never looked back! Her growing empire includes collections of ready-to-wear, evening gowns, bridal, bridesmaids, linens, tableware, fine paper, homewares and home fragrances
Lhuillier has dressed the who’s who of Hollywood. From Gwyneth Paltrow to Reese Witherspoon, J-Lo, Drew Barrymore and so many more! Who could be surprised with designs that ooze femininity while maintaining a modern edge and classic style. Monique is known for her high quality fabrics, dramatic cuts and elegant silhouettes. Her collections normally incorporate lots of texture, soft draping and luxurious detailing.
One of Lhuillier’s best known gowns is the absolutely breathtaking "Scarlet" dress:
Made from the best quality French Alencon lace the dress has a unique key hole back that has since inspired many designers to incorporate this design into their bridal gowns.
Monique is also one of the only designers whose collections still feature two piece gowns. She has many different combinations of intricate embellished bodices and simple silk skirts in a variety of silhouettes. A current favourite at Savvy Brides is the divine "Magical" gown:
This dress has an embellished Chantilly lace strapless corset with a silk orchidea asymmetrically draped trumpet skirt. As always Lhuillier is able to present a fashion forward take on a classic bridal gown. Incorporating modern elements and traditional fabrics the Monique Lhuillier bride is one that is not afraid to take a risk on her big day and wants to step away from the traditional cooker cutter bridal image.
We love Lhuillier’s gowns and have been so lucky to receive so many new stunners in our boutique recently. We also waited with bated breath to see her latest collection and as usual her collection was pure perfection!
